Had the Black Forest cake & coffee for breakfast ! Last day before leaving Freiburg and i wasn’t going to leave without going to Cafe Schmidt! It is my favourite cake and theirs did not disappoint! It was delicious! Everything there looked so good but I stayed focused on we I was there! Don’t miss this place for delicious Kaffee und Kuchen!

Indeed rumors are true that they have great Schwarzwald cake. I tried few other places and this one had the tastiest and fluffiest one. Lot of breakfast options to choose from as well.

We tried two of their pastries, and one of them is their Black Forest cake! It was really delicious! However, that place is definitely overpriced! The prices to eat inside is ridiculous. So better to order take away, and enjoy their food in an economical way.

Elegantly decorated Sweets Shop with a classic ambiance and a good service.
The sweets had a very attractive appearance though their taste and texture was not at the same level. The coffee was excellent.

If you are looking for a traditional Black Forest cake and other baked goods, look no further. This old bakery serves what o think is the best cake I had in all my visits to the city. Perfect balance of sweetness and alcohol, and the fantastic crispy bottom. Very friendly service and nice outdoor seating area with the morning sun.

A bit crowded. But understandably so. Because it's a heritage eatery and has the unanimously accepted BEST original Black Forest Cake in town. A must visit. The cake was to die for. The chocolate sponge soaked in cherry wine, the buttery cream and the actual cherries. Made my day.

We loved the ambience, the friendly service and the Black Forest cake (“Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte”). The establishment is a confectionary and has been making some of the local specialties for 100 years. The service is pleasantly friendly and measured to allow you to thoroughly enjoy the experience of having your delicious drink and food (very nice expresso and tea for us, but they also have a wide variety of hot chocolate and other coffee drinks). Not a place to come
If you’re in a hurry: it would be wrong not to enjoy the classic but unpretentious historical cafe! They also have breakfast sets so perhaps it is nice also in that setting! Also not expensive: 16€ for 2x cake, coffee and tea.

Looked everywhere for some Black Forest gateau, finally finding it here. Absolutely delicious and totally fresh. Definitely worth the effort.
